It goes without saying that scalp micropigmentation is a safe and effective way to treat hair loss. ?While downtime is very short with SMP, we think you should know these post care tips and tricks.
NOTE: Always make sure to receive post care instructions from your scalp micropigmentation artist.
A little post care advice:
You should avoid any increased sweating, like practicing sports or exercising, ?for the initial 5 days after treatment. Swimming, hot saunas, jacuzzis, steam rooms, and any other type of artificial humidity should be avoided.
Any laser or chemical treatments or peelings, and/or any ointments containing RetinA or Glycolic Acid on the face or neck should be discontinued 1 week before and after every SMP Session.
Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micro pigmented area is not advised in order to avoid scarring of the area or removal of the pigment.
Performing tasks related to heavy household cleaning such as garage or basement cleaning where there is a lot of airborne debris is also not recommended.
Avoid any spicy foods as they may cause increased sweating.
Smoking hinders the body’s ability to heal well and it’s bad for your health! All the reason to avoid it! ?Drinking alcohol in excess will also lead to slow healing of wounds.
If you must be under the sun, please wear a hat for the first 7 days and avoid sweating. After the 7th day, you can use an SPF 30 to protect the tattoo from UV rays. ?Sunblock should become a staple of your daily routine to extend the life of your treatment to its maximum potential
You’re allowed to take a shower 24 hours after your session, but please do not use anything other than water on the scalp. ?After 3 days, you can begin using shampoo again. After the 4th day, a fragrance-free moisturizer can be applied as well.
What to expect after your scalp micropigmentation session:
The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin, and has not yet settled in completely. The color of the pigment will soften gradually. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment rub off, as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally exiting your skin. Once the healing of the skin starts taking place, it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the color pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your scalp.
By following the immediate aftercare given by your artist and being vigilant with your long term post care with moisturizer and sunblock as a staple in your routine, you can enjoy your scalp micropigmentation for many years to come.
