Curious about Scalp Micropigmentation?

Here are the answers to the most common questions about SMP!

Scalp Micropigmentation, or SMP, is a new technique of advanced cosmetic pigmentation and has taken America by storm. Scalp Micropigmentation is non-surgical permanent solution for hair loss which uses pigment to simulates follicles resulting in a thicker, more youthful looking head of hair. An SMP artist specializes in the meticulously placing impressions that are hair like follicles on the scalp that give a real, permanent, and natural looking result to any given area of balding or scarring on the head.

Scalp Micropigmentation is specifically made for those suffering from:

  • Male Pattern Baldness
  • Female Pattern Baldness or Women’s hair loss
  • Alopecia
  • Density fill
  • Scar Cover Up
  • Post Hair Transplant Density Fill

Scalp Micropigmentation is typically a 3 phase process with roughly 1 week in between each treatment. Clients can expect anywhere between 2-3 hours per session.

Step 1: The Free Consultation

Your consultation with a Scalp Micropigmentation artist at Scalp King is always free. In this consultation your artist will review your intake sheet, look for contraindications that may prevent treatment, analyze the area of concern, and go over all possible treatment options with you so you can make an informed decision on how you’d like to proceed. Free digital mockups are also available!

Step 2: The First Scalp Micropigmentation Session

We take long strides to make sure we bring exactly what the client wants to the end results. Having said that, your Scalp Micropigmentation artist will take a very conservative approach to your first sessions by using a lighter ink than he usually would and giving greater space between impressions. They specifically do so in order to let the head heal and see how your body responds to the pressure, depth, and pigment that the artist uses. The first session is a baseline for the proper technique the artist will use in the second session as everyones scalp is different and needs fine tuning.

Step 3: The Second Scalp Micropigmentation Session

In the second session your Scalp Micropigmentation artist will give you most of the density that you’ll need to create the natural look that you have both agreed upon. The artist will analyze how your scalp has healed and how much of the pigment has held and will make the fine tuning adjustments necessary to give you the full, natural looking head of hair you strive for

Step 4: The Final Scalp Micropigmentation Session

In the final session, your artist is looking to balance out the impressions he has made with your naturally growing hair and blend everything together, putting the final touches on a procedure that will last a lifetime!

We use something called the Norwood scale to price out scalp micropigmentation. The Norwood scale is a system that defines the level of balding the person is experiencing, ranging from 1 to 7. A typical SMP treatment will cost anywhere between $2000 and $4500 dollars based upon the area of coverage necessary.

We are proud to present a partnership with both care credit and paypal financing for payment options with 0% interest options for well qualified buyers.

We use a very specific proprietary pigment that loses slight saturation but does not change color. There is no risk of our pigment going blue or green. Fading can be combated with proper aftercare like the use of a good sun block. Your skin type, ethnicity, and condition of your skin will all play factors in the level of fading that occurs. Typically, clients who receive properly applied smp will not need a touch up for a number of years. We have seen clients who haven’t needed a touch up for 10 years!

Though it may seem that a smp artist is nothing more than a tattoo artist, there are some major differences between the two. An smp artist will use very specific proprietary nano needles vs the large needles a tattoo artist uses. A smp artist will use a very different pigment than the ink that tattoo artists use, their inks have heavy metals in them that change color to blue or green while ours pigments do not change color. The depth at which tattoo artist work is much deeper in the skin than a smp artist as well. Please do not make the mistake of thinking a tattoo artist can do what an smp artist does, we are specifically trained for this type of work!

Yes! Scalp micropigmentation has specific techniques that will blend scars into the surround hairs to give a very natural look! Please book a free consultation to discuss your options.

The downtime for scalp micropigmentation is very short. Immediately following the procedure there will be some redness on the scalp that will subside over the next 24-48 hours. Your head will look darker than the final saturation level initially as your body heals and pushes out any excess ink. You can return to your regular routine after 72 hours.

All Scalp Micropigmentation procedures at Scalp King have a 1 year guarantee just in case you need to touch up an area that didn’t hold well or blend well after your final session, given that proper aftercare was followed. Furthermore, we provide a 50% discount on touch ups after the 1 year mark.

Color theory plays a major role in SMP. The type of pigment we use has a scale of 1-10 allowing us to match any color of hair through precise measurement and a trained eye.

The minimum requirement between sessions is 7 days. Your smp artist might require more based on genetic and environmental factors.

Unless you’re planning on keeping your hair long (aka a density fill) we recommend that you blade your head within 24 hours of your appointment. We will discuss such matters in the free consultation.

We recommend waiting a full 7 days before shaving your head to give the impressions time to heal

Most certainly not. ?The point of scalp micropigmentation is to bring about a very natural look that is indistinguishable. ?All of our clients report that people cannot tell what they got done, just that they look different and younger. ?Subtlety is key!

This is a common question! Since we decide how dark you want to go in the consultation, having grey hairs does not affect the appearance of smp because we are putting darker impressions that will show on the scalp, blending away the greys.

If we notice that your scalp is dry or that you may be suffering from skin conditions like dermatitis (often seen when clients wear a hat regularly that isn?t washed regularly enough) we will give you a moisturizing protocol and/or send you to a dermatology for treatment. ?We cannot work on overly dry or inflamed skin. Please make sure to follow all pre and post care.

You would think that getting your scalp tattooed hurts, but thats far from the truth. ?About 60% of our clients fall asleep on our chair! Pain levels at worse have been described as a 3/10
